The Spanish Banking Association (AEB) is a trade association for all banks who operate in Spain. Membership of the AEB is voluntary.
The AEB was created in 1977 pursuant to the law governing the right to joining a professional association. It is an entity with a legal personality, its own assets independent of those of its members.
In 1994 the AEB also assumed the functions of the former Spanish High Banking Counsel [Consejo Superior Bancario].
