Governing Bodies



In accordance with its Articles of Association, the Spanish Banking Association is governed by the following bodies:


The General Assembly of Associates


The AEB’s General Assembly is composed of all its member banks. It is responsible for electing its President and appointing members to the General Council, for setting general policy guidelines for the governing bodies of the association and for approving the Report of the Activities and its budget, as well as the contributions of its members to cover the administration costs.


The General Council


The AEB’s General Assembly is composed of all its member banks. It is responsible for electing its President and appointing members to the General Council, for setting general policy guidelines for the governing bodies of the association and for approving the Report of the Activities and its budget, as well as the contributions of its members to cover the administration costs.


The Executive Committee, appointed by the General Council, meets on urgent matters to adopt the necessary agreements in the same issues under the purview of the General Council.

The President


The duties of the President of the association include chairing the meetings of the AEB governing bodies; making sure that the general guidelines for the association’s activity as determined by the General Assembly are followed; and ensuring compliance with the resolutions adopted by the General Assembly and the other governing bodies.

The President of the AEB legally represents the association in all its activities and before any natural or legal persons, whether public or private.


The Controllers

The controllers, appointed every year by the AEB General Assembly, have the specific duty of supervision and control over all the accounts, expenses and income of the association during the financial year for which they are appointed and until the final results are approved by the General Assembly.


The Secretary General


In accordance with the Articles of the association, the Secretary General has the duty of giving support to the President and the other governing bodies in the exercise of their duties and tasks, as well as addressing the practical implementation of their resolutions.


All the staff providing their professional services to the association report to the Secretary General of the AEB.


The Secretary General is supported by the Deputy Secretary General whose duties are those of the Secretary of the governing bodies of the AEB, together with such duties as may be entrusted at any time by the governing bodies or by the Secretary General of the AEB.
